Survey Technician

San Francisco, CA

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated professional to support land surveying operations and help produce accurate, reliable site data for a variety of projects. In this role, you will work closely with surveyors, engineers, and project teams to gather field measurements, assist with mapping and drafting tasks, and ensure that survey information is documented with care and precision.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting field surveys using total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, data collectors, and related surveying tools.
  • Measure and record land features, boundary points, elevations, and topographic information with accuracy.
  • Support the setup, calibration, and maintenance of survey equipment and instruments.
  • Collect, organize, and review field data to help ensure completeness and quality.
  • Prepare sketches, notes, and documentation to support survey calculations and mapping.
  • Assist with drafting, plotting, and updating survey drawings, maps, and legal descriptions as needed.
  • Work in a variety of outdoor environments, including construction sites, roadways, undeveloped land, and other project locations.
  • Follow safety procedures and project-specific guidelines while working in the field.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to help coordinate field activities and resolve data questions.
  • Perform other related duties in support of surveying and mapping projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or training in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience in land surveying, construction staking, or field data collection is an asset.
  • Familiarity with surveying equipment, measurement techniques, and basic survey terminology.
  • Ability to read maps, plans, and technical documents.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with data entry and survey-related software or CAD tools, is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in outdoor and sometimes physically demanding conditions.
  • Good communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required depending on the role and location.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar drafting and mapping software.
  • Knowledge of boundary, topographic, construction, or ALTA/NSPS survey work.
  • Understanding of basic surveying calculations and coordinate systems.
  • Ability to interpret field notes and assist with preliminary data analysis.
