Principal Contract Manager – Major Capital Projects

Location: Oakland, CA / San Ramon, CA / Houston, TX (Hybrid)

Salary Range: $170,000 – $190,000

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Contract Manager to support large-scale capital and infrastructure projects. This role will lead post-award contract administration activities, ensuring contract compliance, supplier performance, risk management, cost control, and successful project delivery.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing engineering, construction, EPC, pipeline, utility, industrial, or heavy civil project contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage post-award contract administration for major capital projects
  • Administer change orders, amendments, claims, renewals, and contract closeouts
  • Monitor contractor and supplier performance against contractual obligations
  • Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
  • Lead resolution of complex contract issues and disputes
  • Partner with project management, engineering, procurement, legal, and supplier teams
  • Develop and improve contract management processes and best practices
  • Support contract negotiations and commercial strategy
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to contract management staff
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, contract requirements, and regulatory standards

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 9+ years of experience managing contracts for large engineering, construction, utility, industrial, pipeline, or heavy civil projects
  • Strong experience with contract administration, change management, claims, and supplier performance management
  • Experience working with cross-functional project teams and senior stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EPC, CMAR, Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, or GMP contracting models
  • PMP, PgMP, CCE, Lean Six Sigma, or similar certification
  • Experience in project controls, cost estimating, scheduling, and commercial negotiations
  • Knowledge of SAP, Ariba, SRM, or similar contract management systems
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
