Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Substation Project Engineer to lead the engineering and design of complex electric substation projects. This is a senior-level engineering position requiring strong experience in electrical engineering, project execution, technical design, and cross-functional leadership.
The engineer will work with internal engineering teams, contractors, vendors, and public agencies to deliver complex projects safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable engineering standards and codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering and design activities for large, complex substation projects.
- Perform engineering analyses, studies, and develop conceptual designs.
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, and guidance to engineering teams.
- Review and provide technical input on project specifications and contractor bids.
- Support project teams with land, permitting, legal, and regulatory-related engineering matters.
- Resolve complex engineering and design issues and develop practical solutions.
- Lead technical meetings and present engineering recommendations to stakeholders and management.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, project teams, and other engineering disciplines.
- Provide technical direction and knowledge transfer to less-experienced engineers.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable industry practices, standards, and codes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited U.S. program or equivalent international degree.
- 8+ years of cumulative electrical engineering and design experience.
- Strong electrical engineering and design background.
- Experience working on complex engineering projects.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently with general direction and provide technical leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale, high-budget electric substation projects.
- Direct substation engineering and design experience.
- Strong project management experience.
- Current California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience working with utilities, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
